Mill Hill Place
Mill Hill Place is a residential building in north London, run by its building management. They needed a private place for residents: one noticeboard for events, services, maintenance and useful contacts, with the building in control of who gets in. Who is admitted and what gets posted are decisions that stay with the building. This page shows what we built and the parts it runs on.
How we built it
A noticeboard is only private if someone lets people in. Every resident is approved by the building before they see a single post.
What we built
- Access requests: a new resident asks to join, and an administrator approves or declines them.
- Three roles, administrator, community manager and resident, each seeing what they need and no more.
- Posts in four sections, events, services, maintenance and contacts, with comments and attachments.
- A weekly-update flag, so the building's regular news stands out from everything else.
- Email alerts for access requests, decisions and new posts.
- An admin dashboard for people and roles, and a password reset for residents.
What it did
The platform is live for the building's residents. It moved to a new server in June 2026.
The parts
A web front end, a small server and one database with secure logins, sending its email through a mail service, hosted on our server. Posts, people and roles all live in that one database, and the admin dashboard is simply a view of it. And one design choice that makes it work for a building: nothing is visible until the building has let a resident in, so the board can carry the things a building would never put on a public page.
What it took us
The date of the first build is not in our records. Since then, the one change on record is the move to a new server in June 2026.
